Why on earth is Jesus Good News?

What’s this Lent Series about?

This series is about the nature of Christian hope that we have in and through Jesus. Is Jesus just our ‘ticket to heaven’, our personal salvation and hope for the future, or is He also ‘good news’ for us and for everyone here and now on earth? The content of the series is informed by the biblical interpretation of the contemporary theologian Tom Wright (N.T. Wright), especially his book ‘Surprised by Hope’. In an informal cafe-style format John Pickering, Mark Mabin, Rowena Stevenson and Tom Scott will give us snapshots of how Jesus is good news to them at work, at home, at study and even in church! During the course of the evening each week participants will have the opportunity to discuss and reflect on why and how Jesus is ‘good news’ for us all through the camera angles of creation, worship, church and mission provided by the speakers.

Four Thursday evenings during Lent

1st, 8th, 22nd and 29th March

7.30-9.15pm in the Warren Hall

A bit of bio info about John, Mark, Rowena and Tom

John, Mark, Rowena and Tom are all parishioners at St Christopher’s. They’re a ‘bookish’ lot, especially when it comes to books on Christian theology and faith. They like to discuss what they’ve read and none of them wants to just leave words on the page, but to turn them into action in their lives. In this Lent Series they’re looking forward to sharing their stories and engaging in good discussion, which they hope will further equip us to participate in the Good News of Jesus.

How do I register for the Lent Series?

You can register by phoning the church office on 358-8780 or by e-mailing Pip Mabin at groups@stchristophers.org.nz. Registering is helpful to us so that we know how many people to expect, but don’t worry if you haven’t registered, just come along on the night. Looking forward to see you there!
